This winter has been so dreary. We got back from South Carolina to snow and cloudy days. So we bailed and went to Vegas. Vegas is a city of wonders. It was warm and sunny, that's the main thing. The city has changed a great deal over the years. I think the last time we were there was in the late 90s. I remember the very first time I went; I think I was 21 and my mother was taking me there. I didn't realize it at the time, but I was a traveling companion for her. It's a completely different city now.

This time we didn't see any shows. We concentrated on fine food and slot machines. I have to say that the attire some of the guests were wearing was outrageous, or the lack thereof. What in the world are people thinking? When did it become high fashion to look like you got your clothes out of the trash can? It was such a relief to go somewhere, anywhere, that men wore a suit, and women wore gowns that covered their body. Elegance. I like elegance. People all over the place were dressed in sweatpants, swimsuits, t-shirts, etc. They had on the whole torn jeans and ripped t-shirts look. Maybe celebrities look cool in those kinds of clothes but ordinary people? It's not a good look. Then there are the women wearing leggings as pants and they are so tight you can see every single bump, nook and cranny. Lord, there was a woman bigger than a house wearing skintight shorts so tight they were molded to her crack. And they were as short as possible. What was she thinking? I mean what is going on in your mind that you put something like that on and walk around in public? I don't think she was a sex worker either. I think some of them had on more clothes than the ordinary tourist had on.

I also have to say that I do not like the whole obvious fake eyelashes deal. They look like caterpillars on these women's eyes. Young women are wearing these eyelashes. Why? Why this trend toward outrageous makeup? What are they trying to say? I think people are beautiful without all the makeup. Most people would look better if they didn't pile it on. Most people would look better without any of it.

In Vegas we were able to not overeat by having a salad for one of the meals each day, lunch or dinner. Of course, restaurants in Vegas are outrageously expensive especially in the casinos and on the strip. We had some delicious gourmet dinners that were definitely worth. But for breakfast and lunch it was too expensive to choke down. $25 for an omelet when a full breakfast should only cost $8 is too much to take. We were able to walk away from the strip out to a close neighborhood that had a decent diner with ordinary prices and a Korean grocery where I bought salad fixings. We walked everywhere. I almost made 20,000 steps in one day! I certainly set a record for the number of steps I got in.

I didn't lose any weight, but I didn't gain any either. So now I'm concentrating on getting those 10,000 steps per day in and watching what I eat again. I still need to lose another 30 pounds. It's hard y'all but stick with it. We can do it.
